Dog Days of Summer
Is the stress of the heat continuing to get you off center? Maybe it’s the stress of fourth quarter approaching or preparing the kids for back to school that is throwing you off balance. Whatever the case may be, it is time to get centered and what better way to do that than with one of the best stress relievers out there, your dog! After all, they are man’s best friend! So let the dog days this summer include quality time with your pooch! There are so many events and activities these days that are dog friendly or even oriented around dogs! I know the shopping centers I market for try and incorporate furry friends as much as possible.
This summer, try spicing up your daily walk with your dog by walking him to a dog-friendly beach and enjoy a swim for the both of you! On many beaches, whether it is a river, lake, or ocean, there are canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards to rent, all of which you can enjoy with your dog as your first mate. He will love standing out front with his nose in the air and you will love the entertainment and company. You can even find a dog friendly restaurant for the two of you to enjoy a nice post-adventure lunch. Many restaurants that have an outdoor patio or outdoor seating have become dog friendly and may even offer a dog-friendly food menu.
However, if outdoor activities aren’t your forte, try taking your pup for a day trip! Most dogs love riding in cars. So if you plan on going to catch up with family or friends, bring him or her along to stick their head out the window and enjoy all the new sights and smells! After your visit, take your furry friend to a pet supply store for a yummy treat or a new toy, they deserve it just as much as any of your fur-less friends; especially if you were visiting in-laws.
Another popular trend that has been going viral over the past couple months is doggie tango! Yes, dogs as dance partners. I am not sure if you have checked your social media news feeds lately, but dogs with moves have been blowing up the web. I know many people say ‘you can’t teach old dogs new tricks” but you can teach him some new moves! Dance studios around the country are hosting doggie and me dance lessons where you can learn to salsa and swing dance with your pooch!
So whether it be a swing dance, a swim, an adventure, or a movie-night in, take some time this summer to give your pooch a smooch and show them how much you love them! They will enjoy the time with their best friend and you will enjoy the unconditional love that pets have to offer.
Until next time, have fun with you furry friend and stay centered, gurus!
