No More Mr. Tough Guy
Hi Gurus! I hope you all treated your mother well on Mother’s Day but the time to celebrate your parents is not over! Father’s Day is just around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about how to show your dad how much you appreciate him.
Over the years, fathers have always received the traditional gifts: ties, handsaws, tool kits, fishing gear, etc. Well, this year we are saying “no more Mr. Tough Guy”. Even though Dad may act tough and claim he would rather go see MMA fighters battle it out, we all know he secretly wants a sea scrub foot rub.
So why not give him not only what he secretly wants but what he desperately needs, a good old fashioned spa day? You know he would most likely never book it on his own, either he doesn’t think it is a “manly” thing for him to do or it has just never consciously crossed his mind. So take the pressure off and surprise him by booking an appointment at a local spa and salon! You could get him a gift card instead, but if you book the appointment it puts time on the calendar for him to relax. We all know dads sometimes need the extra reassurance that it is ok for them to take time to treat themselves every once in a while. In addition to a nice massage, you could even add a little something extra and plan a manicure and pedicure for him! Who knows when the last time was he had a foot massage or his cuticles cut. If he can’t remember or says “never”… now is the time.
In the meantime, while dad is being pampered, you could marinate some steaks, mash some potatoes, and fluff up a cushion or two on his recliner. This way when dad comes home centered, smelling like oils and bath salts, he will have a nice manly and hearty dinner waiting for him.
In addition to a relaxing morning and a hearty dinner, another thing that could make his day extra special is a heartfelt, homemade gift! Dads love getting personal gifts from their sons and daughters. A great gift that dads enjoy are picture collages. A picture collage could be in the form of printing a picture collage created online and framing it or an electronic picture frame loaded with a collection of pictures of you and dad over the years. He will love the effort you put into the gift to make it personal, as well as going through all of the memories that you two have shared throughout the years. Another great option is a journal filled with reasons why he matters so much to you. In this journal, you can include specific stories about your life that have stood out in your memory, from your earliest memory to your most recent, it is almost guaranteed that dad will shed a tear.
I hope you found this helpful in making this Father’s Day special for Dear Ol’ Dad! Until next time, stay centered Gurus!
