Celebrating Mom this Mother's Day
Hi, gurus! It’s great to see you all rejuvenated, stylish, and centered this spring. Now is the time to spread the positive spirit to those around you, and who better to share it with than the person who has always been there for you when you were feeling out of balance and needed someone to advise you on how to find your bearings: your mom! And there couldn’t be a better time, because Mother's’ Day is approaching quickly!
As many of you probably know, moms have the most difficult and most important job of all: they raised us, and that is not an easy task. They are the ones who keep us centered, and May 8th is a day that should be dedicated to appreciating what they have done for us by giving the gift of finding their center through relaxation and pampering.
Remember all of those meals your mom cooked for you as a kid? You would insist on Pop-Tarts and Toaster Strudel, but she insisted on something with ‘nutritional value’ and would show you how much she cared by making you Egg-in-a-Hole. Well, this is the time to show her how much she means to you by whipping her up a nice breakfast in bed. There are many boutique cooking stores that have great brunch cookbooks and unique pancake mixes that will impress even the biggest foodie out there, such as pumpkin, apple strudel, or even savory, tomato, and basil. If pancakes aren’t your mom’s favorite, then I’m sure she would be just as impressed with eggs and bacon.
However, cooking isn’t for everyone, so finding a great brunch spot may be the way to go. Many restaurants have excellent brunch menus specifically tailored to Mother’s Day! Or maybe you could scratch brunch altogether and schedule a mother-daughter (or son) spa day. Begin the morning by scheduling a massage for your mom and finish it off with a mother-daughter mani and pedi and a nice dinner.
In addition to a day centered around your mother, every mom deserves a great gift that shows your appreciation. I know, as a mother, I love when my daughter makes homemade gifts. If you have the time to invest, create a scrapbook for your mom! It’s always fun to go through old pictures and reminisce on all the good times you had together. Taking some time for yourself to visit a craft store, pick out stickers, and reflect on how much you appreciate your mom is a great way to center yourself after a long work week. Who knows, maybe it’ll become a new hobby!
If you don’t have the time to scrapbook, you can always buy an electronic picture frame and load it up with photos of your mom and you! Or, if you’re still feeling in the DIY mood, maybe make her a gift basket full of her favorite things. You can fill it with food items, magazines, and cooking supplies for you to have a mother-daughter (or son) cooking day or you can fill it with spa supplies and candles so that your mom can treat herself to a nice bubble bath and a good book.
However you decide to spend May 8th, just remember to give thanks to the one who kept you centered through all the good times and bad: your mom.
